From 17 January 2025 - 31 December2026: Catching lumpfish is prohibited!

Please note

As of 17 January 2025, catching lumpfish for anglers and recreational fishermen in the seas around Denmark and thus also in the Western Baltic Sea is prohibited. If you hook a lumpfish, it must be released immediately, so it is not allowed to store the fish or bring it ashore.

The catch ban is nationwide and also applies to commercial fishermen.

The image shows a female lumpfish. The colour of the lumpfish can vary according to gender, age and habitat. When fully grown, the female is grey, the male is darker in colour and changes to a reddish colour on the fins and sometimes also on the entire body during the breeding season.
